We have had another fantastic day today.
First we worked on our designs for the calendar competition. Can you work out which local monuments we have used and which months our designs represent?
Then this afternoon we worked with Mrs Wilkie to learn and add some elements to the Hoyland Hop!
We really hope you can join us at the showcase on Friday to see all our amazing work. We may even teach you the Hoyland Hop!
We have had a lovely day today at Wentworth Castle…. It was so hot!
We looked around the ruins of the castle and looked really hard for clues that there might be a dragon!
We saw monuments and turrets. We climbed up lots of steps in search of the dragon! Do you think we found him?
On Monday afternoon we met Katie… She came to tell us all about a dragon, in a town called Barnsley!
We were all the villagers and we had to decide how we were going to get rid of the dragon that lived near the big rocks!
We all tried to imagine what the dragon would look like and in groups we created a daring. Can you tell what each part of the dragon we created using our bodies?
For the end of the story we decided that if we asked the dragon nicely to be our friend he might stop eating all the things in our town!
We have been designing and building our very own castles!
As a group we looked at books about castles and decided on the features that ours would have. Then we drew our designs.
When we had finished our design we looked at others’ and ‘pinched’ some ideas.
Then we started to build our castles!
Do you like our castles so far?
What a fantastic day year three had at Cannon Hall!
We worked with an artist and musician who are preparing an
installation of our work in the Hall over the summer period.
We used some Chinese pottery on display in the Hall as an inspiration for the days work.
We used a variety of instruments to create a soundscape for the installation and we will be
sharing this music in our classroom on Friday.
All the work created this week by HCPS children will be included in the installation over the summer.
Make sure you visit Cannon Hall during the summer and see our work!
Today we have been dancing! We have learnt the first part of the Hoyland Hop and devised one of our own motifs. Everyone came up with some great ideas using their holiday homework. Next we worked hard drafting and completing our calendar competition entries. Roll on tomorrow for another exciting day.
I reckon only the most important and richest of Romans would have been able to afford one of Y3/4H’s fantastic mosaics for in their home.
Can my class recognise their own?
All the children designed their mosaics with symmetry in mind. How many mosaics have 1, 2 or 4 lines of symmetry?
Yesterday we designed a calendar page for the Walker Morris competition and started the ‘Hoyland Hop’ dance!
Today we have been making a collage of the ‘Dragon of Wantley’ and willow weaving our very own dragon for our playground. Can you remember any of the descriptions from the poem?
We tied our own messages about why we liked Barnsley and our local area to our willow hearts.
What messages did you write on your ribbon?
Come back soon to see a preview of more fantastic work before Friday afternoons viewing session!
Hope you’re looking forward to our dance performance on Friday!
We started at Cannon Hall, working the artists and musicians to create an exhibition for public display
