Sorry its taken me a while to get back in touch with you, but the internet out here isn’t very reliable. I’ve sent you a link to follow that will show you where I am at the minute. Have a good look at it, see if you can describe what you see, don’t forget to use proper geographical words in your description! If you write your descriptions on the blog I’ll have a look at them next time I log on.
It looks like there was a sand storm because there is lots of sand on the ground and we can see lots of camels with humungous humps on their back. If the straw was on the floor the people and the camels would fall over it that’s why it is on the roof.
Hello Heather. There’s lots of straw around because after lasts weeks floods the wind blew really strongly and you’re right when the mud dried up there was a terrible sand storm. The sand got in my eyes, but it didn’t seem to bother the camels. One of the camel sellers told me the camels eyes are different to ours and this protects them against the sand. Maybe you could find out some more about this for me.
They are lots and lots of trucks and camels . There are street lamps on the yellow sand . They are two big bumpy gates to stop the camels from escaping of the market. There are tall walls around the market for protection.
There are camels. The people look like their poor. I can see 32 camels and people look like their wearing dresses. There are trucks with camels in them. There are lots of walls that look like they are brown and trees in the background and barns for camels.
There’s little huts and there is no glass in the windows. I think it is so the camels can lean over to get the hay. All of the camels have massive humps. There is no grass, I think it is because it is hot and the straw is maybe the grass and people put the hay up high.
Well spotted Kate, all the grass has died off because of the heat and the people have collected it in for the camels to eat. It will grow again when the rain comes.
I can see lots and lots of camels. I can see half of a tall building its like a hotel. There is a jinormas gate and walls so sneeke robbers cant get the camels and things. I think that David is in Eejipt.
The people wear different clothes to what we wear. The camels have lumps on their back. It looks like they live in India. The camels look like Indian horses. The buildings have straw on the top because the camels don’t eat it. The floor is sandy. There are green electric wires.
Wow! You’ve looked really carefully at the video. It is really different here, it’s really hot and very dusty and sandy and the roads are just tracks and muddy lanes. We have electricity but it isn’t working all of the time. Keep on sending your blogs and I’ll try and reply whenever I can.
The camels have a hump on their backs so that people can ride on them in the sand without a seat.
The men wear long dresses to cool them down.

My mummy has been to Cairo and says it is very hot and busy.
There are a lot of things to see in Egipt, she said it was amazing.
I think you might be right about the long gowns the men here wear, I’ll have to buy one to wear instead of my jeans and see if it is any cooler. Did your Mum ride on a camel? The camels have really long eyelashes, the men at the camel market told me this was very important but I’m not sure why. Maybe your Mum might know Erin.
Mummy went on a camel at the pyramids. She was high up on the camel and it was hard getting on and off it.

Thank you Erin (and Mum) you’ve answered my question. Camels are really well suited to their environment aren’t they? I wish my eyelashes were long enough to keep the sand out of my eyes, I have to wrap a scarf around my face instead.

The road looks like it is made of sand and looks very bumpy there are lots of people dressed in long gowns but they still look hot. One of the camels looks like it has a big blue tattoo on its leg.
The ground is red and brown and boling .The sun is bight and yellow.

It looks like its in Africa because it is hot and sunny. Instead of a path it is boiling sand. There is some little pieces of green grass. They have cut the grass to get the hay. They put the hay on top of the buildings so that the camels don’t get it. The hats on their heads protect them from the sand storm.

Well done Amelia, Sarah Jane and Finlay! I am travelling in North Africa. I’m in Egypt at the moment in a small village near to Cairo. I’m riding on a camel as I travel around. They’re not very comfortable to ride on though but they can travel great distances across the sand dunes without needing to stop for a drink. Do you know how camels manage to go so long without a drink?
It looks very hot in Cairo and there are lots of camels everywhere, because it is a camel market. I wish I was there with David.
Well done Y2 you’ve worked out that I am in Egypt! Can you find Egypt on a map? What other countries is it near? Great explorers need to be able to read maps and give directions. Maybe your teachers will let you practise your map reading skills? If you’re very good at it I might let you plan my next expedition.
I can see people wearing white and grey hats and gowns and however the hay is peach and it is on top of the
roof so the camels do not eat it. There’s cars as well.
There is a big bright sun and there is huts as well.
It is a sandy road sandy muddy tracks and there is patterns as well.

Me and my mummy have looked and we think it might be Egypt too. I have been to egypt lots of times and it looks exactly like this.

The buildings and houses have straw on the tops so that the camels don’t eat it. The road is muddy and it has a lot of sand. The camels look very fluffy and they are very creamy colours.

Hi Jude. You spotted the straw on the roof of the camel sheds, I asked them why they put it there and they told me they were drying it in the sun. We had an amazing rain storm last week so that’s why the road is muddy. It’s really hot here now though, I’m almost melting in my clothes but the people who live here seem say they are nice and cool. I don’t know why I feel so hot, any ideas on what I could do?

We have been thinking about your question and have the perfect idea to keep you cool! Why don’t you visit a local market and by a traditional outfit which should keep you cool. It looked like lots of people on your video link were in long cotton dresses, this might be your answer!
