Dragons beware  /

What an exciting last week full of learning in FS2. We have responded to lots of problems using our writing. The witch from ‘Room on the Broom’ sent us a ferocious surprise on Thursday. The witch sent the dragon to our school and this caused damage in our outdoor area.

We had to gather the evidence together to solve this problem and get our resources fixed. This consisted of lots of writing, using our phonics knowledge, including: writing lists, posters, trap designs and creating these, labelling and writing notes to our caretaker. The children did this independently and it was great to see a love of writing in the cohort this week. Keep practicing your writing skills in the holiday and have a brilliant week off 🙂

Super heroes  /

This week we have been looking at developing characters in a super hero story. We used different parts of superheroes that had collided and created our own. We discussed language a superhero would use and created some speech bubbles to go with them. Once we became familiar with why we used speech bubbles in books and our writing we turned ourselves into superheroes.

Weekly roundup /

This week has been arts week and we have explored and developed lots of new skills. We have investigated joining techniques and shown our understanding of them by taking part in a box model challenge and even developed our fine motor control by tracing over our selfie photographs. You might have seen the car park paintings that the older children have done but make sure you pop in and see our Picaso wall of fame!

Yesterday we saw a tweet from Ward Green Foundation Stage and today we wrote to them to find out more!

The children across Ward Green Primary Foundation Stage had made a lawn mower and were advertising it.

Today we wanted to investigate further so wrote to them to find out more. We have invited them to come and cut our grass but also asked if they can send us instructions to make our own!

We have thought of lots of different vocabulary we have built up in literacy this week that we associate with pirates, we then worked in partners to create our own sentences using as many words on the board as possible. All children in class 1 showed lots of perseverance and resilience throughout this literacy lesson and the sentences created were amazing. Children checked their sentence structure, particularly focusing on reading it back to make sure it makes sense. We then read the sentences back to everyone and underlined the vocabulary used and added more! Well done 🙂

Nursery Sports Day /

What a fantastic day we have had today! Lots of running from all the children and even the families who came to watch! All the children did brilliantly and what better way to finish the day than with an ice cream. Thank you to Mrs Gregory for organising, all the families and children for attending and taking part so enthusiastically and to the Y6’s who came to help us out. Here are a few photos from both morning and afternoon.
