Rock Stars /

This week we have continued our learning Science with ‘rocks’.

We closely studied the rocks we had collected and made observations about what we could see. We incorporated our art skills and did detailed drawings ensuring we tried to include texture.

We have also started our assessments, kicking off with a Maths Reasoning paper. Next week we will complete the rest of our assessments, the last ones you will complete in class 9!

So this weekend get practising your times tables, spellings and ask your parents to ask you questions about what you are reading. Remember LIRA – Literal, Inference, Reader Response and Author intent.

Yet another great week in Class 9.

Eruptions! /

This afternoon we have had lots of fun recreating a volcanic eruption.

We felt like real scientists making our ‘volcanoes’ and using the chemicals to make a reaction.

Can you remember what we used? How could you change your mixture next time to get a better reaction?

Next week we will be investigating volcanoes and we would like to ask that you bring in a 500ml plastic bottle. This needs to be a clear bottle (labels taken off) but can be any shape!

You will see why next week!

If anyone has more than one hanging around, please feel free to drop them in to either Class 7, 8 or 9.

Thank you

Amazing writing /

I had a great lesson with 10 children from across year 3/4 on Friday.

Following our mysterious event in the hall we started to put together all the facts we had found out and wrote an introduction for our newspaper article.

I am so proud of all of you!

As part of our topic in Year 3/4 this term we will be delving in to different areas of science, in order to put on a fantastic fair!

One of the areas we will cover is rocks. Although we have some rock samples in school we would love to add to the collection!

Your homework is to find different examples of rocks out and about.

Can you find examples of:

chalk, slate, sandstone, granite, limestone, marble, flint, basalt and pumice?

You may need to do a little research on what these look like too!

N.B. Please send any rocks in a labelled bag if you want them returning.

Blog a blurb! /

Morning Guys… really upset I’m not enjoying world book day with you all. 😐

But I’m sure you’re having way too much fun in this lovely snow!

If you’re stuck for things to do or you’re bored you could always dress up in your fancy dress and blog your photo here! We can then all try and guess your character.  Better still ‘blog a blurb’ for a story you’re currently reading and we have to guess the story.

Here is a picture of Katie who has been wearing her costume for days and she is gutted she can’t wear it today!

Here is my ‘blog a blurb’….

A sweet country girl thinks she is lost forever when a terrifying tornado crashes through Kansas and whisks her and her dog, Toto, far away to a magical land. To get home She must follow the yellow brick road to Emerald City. Together with her companions the Tinman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion whom she meets on the way, the young girl embarks on a strange and enchanting adventure. But will she ever make it home safely?

Happy blogging!
