Do you know how to spot great learning? We do!

By 10

Our mission today has been to recognise the characteristics of a great learner. We talked about what great learning would look like and sound like. We discussed what it might feel like if we walked into a classroom where great learning was happening.
We wrote our ideas on post it’s and worked together to agree which we’re the most important.

Once we knew what we were looking for we set off around school with the iPads to search out great learning and here’s some examples of what we found. Can you remember some of the characteristics of a great learner?

Wow Year 2 I am so impressed that you have become learning detectives! It was great to see you visiting Foundation Stage and taking photos of the great learning taking place within the setting. How did you recognise great learning? What were the characteristics?

A good learner should listen very carefully and concentrate. A great learner should always be focused. A good learner should sit down properly. A great learner must try their best and never give up. A great learner should keep their handwriting neat. You should be quiet but not silent because it will help you to concentrate. You should do helpful teamwork. You should try 100% all the time.

A great learner works in silence but sometimes you can talk, you need to think really hard in your head so that you can work the right answer out. A good learner should need to focus on what they are doing because if you don’t focus then you will not get it done. To be a good learner you need to use your concentration skills because if you don’t you will not get the right answer.

A good learner should never give up because if they do they will not learn. A good learner should have neat hand writing and good sentences. A good learner should listen or if they do not listen they will not know what you are doing. A good learner has to focus in all of their lessons.

A good listener has to listen so they know what they are doing. A great learner should be able work in a group. You will need to focus on what the teacher is saying because if they don’t do it they won’t have a clue what they are doing. Never give up and work hard every day and focus. A good learner is helpful to offers to so they are kind and listen to teacher.

Some brilliant comments! I love how you have explained your reasons and given examples of what you mean. Ben I agree, you should never give up. You didn’t give up when your Spelling Snails were tricky and now you are whizzing through them.

Wow, fantastic to see children at HCPS really getting into what ‘learning’ is and how it is done! Looking forward to seeing your findings! Well done Year 2.

If you are a really good learner then you listen to what your teacher is saying you need to be a bit imaginative and have a bit of sugar to make your brain work really well. When I am concentrating I stick my tongue out a bit between my teeth.

A great learner should never give up and always concentrate. They should listen to the teacher because if they don’t they won’t know a clue about what they are doing.

I totally agree Madison! Can you remember the word we use for never giving up?
