It’s hard to believe that we are 6 weeks into the new academic year and only have 2 more before the half term break – and what a jam packed 6 weeks it has been with some incredible learning happening throughout school.

This week saw Foundation Stage working with Jane Hewitt looking at maths outdoors. Jane will be working in school the next few weeks on a number of different maths activities and to add to the excitement the photos she takes will be used in a soon to be published book!

Year 3 and 4 continued their journey into finding out facts and the history of Hoyland and you may have seen them wandering through Hoyland this past week observing and making notes. They were also visited in class by grandparents who filled them in on how Hoyland has changed and evolved over the years.

The plot thickens further in year 5 and 6 with the list of suspects whittled down to 8!! Watch this space to find out who dunnit and in the theme of their writing check out this fantastic video that Mr Tallant’s class have been working on – http://hoylandcommonprimary.co.uk/category/mr-tallants-class-blog/

The stars of the week this week have once again exceeded expectations and have been chosen for an array of reasons – their attitude to work, always having a positive attitude around school, numeracy work, their historical explanations, bravery and literacy.

You should have all received a letter and leaflet this week explaining the new system of assessment. As of September 2015, the existing system of levels to assess pupil attainment and progress has been removed for all pupils in Y1-6 and will not be replaced by the Government. Instead, the Government has asked schools to create their own systems for assessing pupils.
Hoyland Common will use the HCAT (Hoyland Common Assessment and Tracking) system to monitor, track and target set for attainment and progress through school. If you would like further information please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher who will be happy to help.

You will have also received an “Attendance Matters “ leaflet as well – please do not under estimate the importance of good attendance on your children’s outcomes.

Once again, should you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the school team.
