It has been an exciting first week back at Hoyland Common Primary School, we have had visits in Y2 from the Fire Service which is particularly important at this time of year. Y5/6 pupils have been making World War I trench models and it was good to see them all joined up depicting a trench system and today has been the sponsored penalty shootout with Sheffield FC, the oldest football club in the world and it was great to see all the children taking part and enjoying the challenge.

As ever the fantastic stars of the week have been selected for a range of wonderful reasons, lots of children have been selected for their efforts in literacy and writing this week, for having a great attitude towards their learning and one pupil was selected for having a huge improvement in their attitude to learning. I would also like to mention that I was contacted on Tuesday by a member of the public wishing to express their gratitude that a Hoyland Common Primary School pupil had spent 2 hours on Sunday picking up litter and rubbish on Princess Street to ‘make it a nicer for everyone who lives there’. Well done Kai, what a great attitude towards your local community.

I would also like to say Thank you for those parents who attended the briefings on the reforms regarding Special Education Needs this week, further information is available on the website.

Just a reminder that next week is the first assessment week of the year, and children always achieve their best when they do these assessments alongside their peers, so next week keeping attendance high is incredibly important. Attendance this week has been 96.8%, let’s continue to keep attendance as positive as possible even into the winter months.

Finally if there is anything you wish to discuss about your child or their education please do not hesitate to contact me.
