As ever it has been a very busy week at Hoyland Common Primary School. Y1pupils had a great day at Elsecar Heritage Centre, dressed up as Victorian Children riding and finding out about the steam trains that are there. Keep an eye out for them on ITV on Monday on the ‘votes for coal’ programme.

On Thursday Y5/6 visited the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham to find out about the history of crime and punishment, and even took part in a gruesome Victorian trial. It was also great to hear from members of the public and the people who worked at the museum as to how tremendously well behaved and well mannered the children of Hoyland Common were, and we were invited back whenever we wanted!

This week has also been anti bullying week. Children have learnt about what bullying is, the types of bullying and what to do if it is happening to you or someone you know, writing songs and designing posters to promote an anti-bulling school. It was amazing to hear that children didn’t think bullying was a issue at Hoyland Common Primary, which once again shows what exceptional children we have here at Hoyland Common.

This weeks stars of the week have been selected for a wide range of reasons including fantastic effort in maths and literacy, for settling in to a new school well, for excellent independent work and for trying hard in everything to name but a few! Well done to you all and keep up the great work.

Attendance has once again been very good, 97.5%, so let’s keep this great effort up on the run up to Christmas even though I know the colds and sniffles season is coming up. Parents evening is the week beginning the 2nd December please do not forget to get your appointments booked to see just how well your child has done and how you can further support them at home. Again there will be a school dinners tasting session on in the dining area so you can sample the new school menu.

We also have the Christmas Fayre next Thursday and it would be wonderful to see you all there supporting not only the children but also the local community too!

As ever if you have any issues or concerns please do not hesitate to let me know. On a final note we are always looking for willing volunteers to support the school where ever they can from reading and spellings to helping run clubs and activities and even raising funds for the school. If you are interested please come and say hello!
