It has been another busy week at Hoyland Common Primary School with the week beginning with parents evening on Monday and Tuesday. It was excellent to hear such unreservedly positive feedback from parents in relation to the attainment and progress of children in all areas of their education. If for any reason you did not manage to make an appointment please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Wednesday was National Autism Awareness day and children across school came to school in their ‘onesies’ and pyjamas to help raise awareness about Autism and £150 was also raised for the charity Autism Awareness.

On Thursday we were visited by Sara Morrissey, Head of the Barnsley Challenge, who is responsible for improving standards in all school across Barnsley. She spent the morning visiting all classes and observing the learning and she was thoroughly impressed with the quality of teaching and learning that was taking place, the engaging and creative activities the children were doing and the children’s ability to confidently discuss what they were learning about and not just what they were doing. Thank you and a very well done to both staff and pupils.

The stars of the week this week were chosen for excelling in a wide variety of areas including having a positive attitude to all their learning, for fantastic efforts in literacy and writing and for always having a smile of their face. I hope you all enjoyed your dining with the stars and a big well done to you all. Attendance this week was a brilliant 97% so let’s keep it high for the last week of the Spring term next week!

Next week brings us the Y4 residential to Sherwood Forest and here’s hoping the weather is good and I am sure all the children going will have an amazing time. Please do look out for an exciting announcement about school next week. As ever if there is anything about your child’s education that you wish to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me on one of my staff.
