We were very excited this morning because it was time to open our surprise parcel! We opened the box and there was a letter addressed to our class.
We read the letter then looked at the contents of the box
We were really excited, we looked at all the objects and described them. This afternoon we have been drawing the toys and writing a description of them.
Can you describe some of them and tell us more about them?
I liked the pop up jester because I’ve got one at home, I enjoyed drawing the steam roller today in class.

I really enjoyed being in your class this morning Mrs Harrison, it was so exciting to see what was in the box! I have no idea what some of those old toys are and I’m really looking forward to hearing from your class when they’ve discovered what they are and how you play with them, especially the stick like object, I really haven’t a clue what that is! Over to you Y2!!

I know that all your class will be good at researching as we did a lot of it in Year 1!
I think the toys are old because they were another boy or girls and they don’t need them anymore so they’ve sent them on for us to play with.
Maybe you’re right Erin. Perhaps we need to email the company that sent them to us, tell them we’ve received the parcel and say thank you. We could ask them for more information then.
I agree that the toys look old especially the wooden ones. The third one up reminds me of a spindle, you’ll have to let me know what it is, I would love to hold it!

Hello Erin’s Mum.
We found out that the box came from the Toy Design Lab, they had found it in their old stockroom. When we opened the box we found lots of really old toys. There was a metal toy steam engine, a wooden aeroplane, a wooden horse and lots more toys. We drew the toys and then used adjectives to describe them. We tried hard to use connectives in our writing when we were thinking if the toys had belonged to rich or poor children. Later in the week we are going to email the company to tell them all that we have found out.
Year 2
Wow, that sounds interesting! Keep up the good work Y2 and be sure to use all of the adjectives and connectives that you have learnt in your email to the Toy Design Lab.
