A great start to the new half term.
The week began with a firework safety talk from our community police officers. We have also had a visit from the fire service this week – who have worked with pupils in Foundation Stage, Y2 and Y4.
This week also saw Y5/6 share their horror stories with parents on Thursday afternoon. I have been really impressed both with the content, and also the performance of our storytellers. Some Y5/6 pupils also visited the town hall this week as part of their citizenship topic to gain an understanding of how local councils operate.
Today, our FS2 pupils visited Silverwood to take part in a range of outdoor activities. In KS2, our cross country team represent Hoyland Common at Penistone. The Y6 boys and Girls team both qualified for the Barnsley schools finals next week and 13 out of 14 pupils qualified for the individual finals after Christmas. Fantastic guys!
Our stars have been chosen this week for resilience whilst on school residential, fantastic work in maths, having an excellent attitude to learning, excellent questioning skills and amazing writing – well done to all of you!
I would also like to personally thank everyone who has donated to the shoebox appeal. We have had a fantastic response and over 60 boxes from Hoyland Common will be making a difference to peoples’ lives all over the world. Well done!
Next week will see some of our year 5 pupils begin their bikeability training school and also, our annual Children in Need celebrations, which has a ‘superhero’ theme this year.
Thank you all for the hard work this week. If you are attending fireworks celebrations this week have fun and please remember to stay safe.
Best wishes,
Mr Banham
