I hope you have all had a relaxing Easter Break and are all ready for the term ahead. It has been a fantastic first week back and children have returned refreshed and enthused.

The highlight of the first week has been the 2 wonderful performances of the Y3/4 Easter production. Well done to all who were involved and thank you to all of those who came to watch.

In other areas of school Y2 children had a visit to Chester Zoo as part of their topic on animals and pets. It was pleasing to hear the number of positive comments from members of the public about how well behaved our children were. Well done Year 2.

Year 1 pupils took part in a local walk and explored the community they live in, I am very much looking forward to seeing the work from this whilst Y3/4 pupils have continued with their fencing classes and again the instructor has commented on the ‘impeccable behaviour’ of HCPS pupils.

Pupils in Year 5/6 are gearing up for their SATs at the beginning of May, I am sure you will all back me in supporting them wherever we can to make sure they get the outcomes they deserve.

This week’s stars of the week have been selected for demonstrating any one of the school rules, pupils this week have been selected for showing honesty and being trustworthy and being a great role model. I hope you all enjoy dining with the stars!

Attendance last term was very low compared to where Hoyland Common Primary School attendance usually is. As a school community it is important that we promote positive attendance and I am sure you are all aware just how big an impact good attendance has on children’s learning. Let’s make sure between us the attendance this half term is as high as it can possibly be. Attendance this week was 95.7%, below the school target attendance of 97%

As ever if there is anything you wish to discuss about your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact me or one of the HCPS team.
