A friend of Jo Cox said that it was upto “all of us – to carry on Jo’s work: to combat and guard against hatred, intolerance and injustice and to serve others with dignity and love. That is the best way we can remember Jo and all she stood for.”

Joanne Cox was a British Labour Party politician who was the Member of Parliament for the Batley and Spen constituency from her election in May 2015 until her murder in June 2016. Jo Cox’s life was marked by her compassion and by her passion. She worked tirelessly for a fairer, kinder and a more tolerant world. She believed passionately that even the greatest challenges could be overcome. .Jo was a campaigner and an active member of her community. She was a colleague, a friend, a wife, a daughter and a sister. The public reaction to her death – in Yorkshire, across Britain and throughout the world – showed that the values she lived by are widely shared. Jo’s murder led to an outpouring of grief and solidarity across the world. On 22 June 2016 memorials were held in cities as far apart as London and Nairobi, Washington and Buenos Aires.
Joanne Cox was a labour politician who strived to help and bring people together in the local and wider community. After Joanne’s death, there has been a charity created called ‘The Jo Cox Foundation’. The Jo Cox Foundation has been established to support Jo’s friends, family and colleagues in their efforts to continue her work and to highlight the issues she cared about so deeply – from the plight of innocent civilians in Syria to the despair caused by loneliness and social isolation in the UK. The foundation has also launched a ‘Great Get Together’ from the 16-18th June 2017 to bring people together.
Joanne’s death was designed to divide us and we can think of no better response than an anniversary that brings us closer together to celebrate all that we have in common. Joanne shall be forever remembered, whether it is just as a politician or as a kind caring helper we shall all be touched by the kind things she has done for us and not wanting anything in return.

Joanne Cox but known as Jo Cox was part of the parliament from the Labour Party. Jo Cox was singled out for attack as a “passionate defender” of the European Union and immigration. Mair viewed the Labour MP as one of the collaborators and a traitor to white people.She was a helpful and kind person to have around and it was just a shame that someone that tried to make the world a better place died like this. On 16 June 2016, Cox died after being shot and stabbed multiple times in Birstall, where she had been due to hold a constituency surgery. Thomas Mair, a man associated with far-right organisations, was found guilty of her murder in November and sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order.

Jo Cox was a British labour party politician as you will already know from other people’s posts. But this is my side of it all, she was a British labour politician for the Batley and Spen constituency. She died in June 2016.
Born in Batley, West Yorkshire, Cox studied Social and Political Sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Working first as a political assistant, she joined the international humanitarian charity Oxfam in 2001, where she became head of policy and advocacy at Oxfam GB in 2005. She was selected to contest the Batley and Spen parliamentary seat after the previous incumbent, Mike Wood, decided not to stand in 2015. She held the seat for Labour with an increased majority. Cox became a campaigner on issues relating to the Syrian Civil War, and founded and chaired the all-party parliamentary group Friends of Syria.

When I first read this blog post and read some information, I was touched by all the things this lovely person did to help our community and make it a better place everyone would love and cherish. Although she is dead, the opinions and values she held so dear they will live forever, I learnt she died doing something she loved, caring about this community and striving to make it better. The Jo Cox Foundation has been developed to help Jo’s Friends family and colleagues to continue their work and make sure the issues she cared about are still having attention paid to them- the things she believed in so deeply, from the plight of innocent civilians in Syria to the despair caused by loneliness and social isolation in the UK. There will also be a launch of the “Great Get Together” a community event on the 16-18th of June to mark the anniversary of her tragic death. They are asking people to throw one of these events- big or small, a street party to celebrate her greatness or just sharing some cake with neighbours to show a united front for a chance to enjoy being together and celebrate what we all have in common, We hope this can bring all our communities together, her killing was designed to try to divide us and they cannot think of a better chance to bring us closer together and think of how lucky we are, to be on this earth together, as one. Please look at the website to raise awareness to all she did and of all the greatness she added to this world, to make us appreciate all we have and to pose a united front, we will never be broken.
