It is coming towards the end of term and there is no easing off at Hoyland Common Primary School. This week has been transition week for the whole school, the majority of current Y6 pupils have spent the week at Kirk Balk to experience secondary school ready for September and the rest of school have all moved to up a year and spent a week with their new teachers for September.

A whole host of activities have taken place to help teachers get to know their new pupils and pupils to get to know their teachers. Thank you to all those parents who attended the ‘meet the teacher’ meetings on Wednesday. We did try to keep them as brief as possible due to the weather, however if there is any further information you require from your child’s teacher for next year or if you wish to introduce yourselves personally please do not hesitate to come into school and say ‘hello’.

In other news the Y5/6 pupils visited Kirk Balk and put on another wonderful rendition of a ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ to their Y7 peers. Next week is KS1 sports day which will be on Tuesday afternoon at 1.15pm, access will be via the gate by the field, let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’s dry and not too hot! Pupil’s Annual Reports will be given to pupils towards the end of next week, once the Key Stage 2 SAT results have been received. The end of year school show is coming together and will be performed on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the last week of term. Information about tickets will be distributed shortly.

This week’s stars of the week have been selected for a whole host of reasons including setting excellent examples to others, fantastic effort, working hard in new classes and general great behaviour. Enjoy your dining with the stars!

Attendance this year has been disappointing and as a school we have not met the schools attendance target. We will be reviewing how as a school we promote and reward positive attendance and also challenge those pupils and families whose attendance is having a detrimental impact on their education.

Next week is the annual Summer Fair at school and can I make a plea for hamper items to be sent in next week as this really does help boost raffle ticket sales and allow us to fund trips and activities for children throughout the year,

As the school year draws to an end, as ever I offer you the opportunity to discuss with either myself or any other member of the HCPS team your child’s education.
