This week has seen some fantastic learning at Hoyland Common Primary School. The whole school focus has been “Anti-Bullying” in line with National Anti-bullying week and the promotion of being an inclusive school. Children have completed literacy, artwork and ICT in various forms all relating to encouraging a positive and supporting culture across school.
On Wednesday the school was flipped and KS2 teachers spent the day in KS1 and KS1 teachers spent the day in KS2, this allowed teachers to share new and different ideas with children and for children in school to build positive relationships with teachers they don’t often have the opportunity to work with. There was a great buzz around school from both children and staff alike and I would like to thank everyone involved for making it such a great week.
This week the Y5/6 Boys played football against Darfield Upperwood and came out victors in a fantastic match played in great spirit and today they will be taking part in a locality tournament at West Meadows Primary School.
This week’s Stars of the week were selected mainly in relation to their involvement in anti-bullying week, for been exceptional role models, for having great interpersonal skills and for excellent discussion during circle time. I very much enjoyed dining with them this lunchtime.
This week’s attendance is 97.1%, attendance at school is one of the key drivers in ensuring pupils make great progress in their learning. Those extended periods of time in class really help children embed their understanding. December will be attendance awareness month and there will be various different activities and awards for individuals, classes and year groups with the best attendance.
Letters will be sent to parents on Monday in relation to parent evening so don’t forget to book your appointment. As ever if there is anything you wish to discuss about your child’s education please do not hesitate to contact a member of the HCPS team.

Hey. I really loved this week and its not just because we got out of doing lots of work it is also because I learnt a lot of things about bullying in a fun way. I have learnt what effects bullying can have on people and that there is a big amount of people who have committed suicide. They can be bullied in three different ways. There’s Cyber, verbal and physical bullying. People can be bullied because of the imbalance of power. Sometimes it can be how different you are. It might be that you have disabilities.
I had a brilliant time in Anti bullying week.
