Over the next few weeks we will be producing out own I-motion Super Hero movies. We have created our characters, planned the storyline and looked at how the I-motion app works. Our next job is to design the sets, or backdrops against which the action will take place. We have looked at lots of different sets and explored how professional set designers create theirs. Today we Googled the set designer for Disney Pixar and found out the man who designed the sets for Tangles and Shrek is called Douglas Rogers. We emailed him to see if he could give us any tips and guess what? We got a reply!!!
Here it is:
Hi Year 2 all the way across there in Barnsley, England ! I bet it’s cold there it’s really warm here in Florida USA.
How did you find out about me? I’m only 1 of the many set designers who work for Disney Pixar and I didn’t realise I was famous. You work in school sounds really interesting, I’m sure we never designed sets or made movies when I was at school.
Set designing is a really interesting job, you can just let your imagination run away with you. the audience want to see amazing sets, not just like they would see in real life, they want to be amazed. If I were to offer you any advice it would be use your imaginations, think about what it would be like to be there, describe your set to anyone who will listen and see if they are excited by it.
You’ll have to post some pictures of your sets on your blog (your teacher included a link to it so I could see the kind of things you do at your school). Maybe you could post the finished movies too when they are done, I might be able to borrow a few ideas from you.
Keep me updated
