Wow what a first week back!
Both Y6 and Y2 pupils came back raring and ready to go in relation to their up and coming SATs. It is amazing to see how confident and ‘up for it!’ the children are. The work and revision they have done over Easter has really paid dividends so many thanks for the efforts supporting your children over the holidays.
As I am sure you have seen in the news section of the website, I can now proudly say that Hoyland Common Primary School has been designated as a Teaching School and will be involved in making a difference to not only the pupils of Hoyland Common but right across the borough and beyond by providing support to other schools and having involvement in the delivery of a wide range of professional development and the training of teachers from September 2014. It really is a great honour for a primary school to be awarded this accreditation and really is testament to the hard work and efforts of pupils and staff alike! A massive well done to you all.
Yesterday we had a visit from Kevin Brennan MP, the Shadow Secretary for Schools and local MP Michael Dugher, who visited Hoyland Common Primary School with a view to seeing that there really is some very positive primary practice and as ever pupils and staff did not disappoint, the usual range of fantastic learning opportunities were displayed and the children really promoted themselves and the school brilliantly.
Yesterday also saw an Early Years Ofsted inspection in the Children’s Centre, the staff and children again were amazing and we will be able to announce the outcome shortly. A big well done to you all.
Children as ever were selected for ‘stars of the week’, and I am pleased to see so many children being given stars for their efforts in maths. Lots of children for the attitudes towards learning and one pupil for their excellent efforts at the Y4 residential to Sherwood in the final week of last term. I would also like to give a special mention to the group of 9 children I have been working with in Y6 during the run up to SATs, well done guys, you know who you are!
Attendance this week has once again been positive at 97.5%, thank you for your continued efforts getting children into school, I cannot emphasise just how much of a difference positive attendance has on children’s progress. As ever if there is anything you wish to discuss about your child and their education please do not hesitate to contact myself or any member of staff in school.
