Good afternoon,

As we come to the end of another fantastic week at Hoyland Common, it is my pleasure to summarise the effort and achievements I have been fortunate enough to see at first hand.

Firstly, I have to start with the effort, enthusiasm, resilience and determination that our Y6s have displayed all week during their SATs. They have worked tremendously hard all year and this week has cumulated in a real celebration of their successes. We are also aware at HCPS that tests are not the only way to measure achievement in school and I am sure that there are many Y6 looking forward to showing off their drama, singing and dancing skills in the upcoming (and still to be announced) End of Year Show. I can assure you all that preparations are underway for another musical extravaganza!

In year3/4 this week, it has been great to see our pupils mixing roles as both ‘historian’ and ‘food critic’. After preparing both Roman and Viking meals based on authentic recipes, they then taste-tested the food and are currently writing reviews. I can confirm that the lamb was absolutely delicious!

In Key Stage 1, pupils have been showing off their literacy skills by using comparatives and superlatives to improve their writing and in IT, using Google Street View to track their journeys. Foundation Stage are currently at Silverwood on an adventurous play visit and I can’t wait to find out if the Three Bears have been located in the woods…

Stars have been chosen this week for their ‘dedication to hard work in lessons’, ‘resilience during ICT work’, ‘consistently positive attitude’ and ‘showing great initiative to organise a debate club’. We are proud of you all.

As always, if you have any feedback, or wish to discuss anything, then please get in touch.

Have a great weekend.

Mr Fallon
