This week in maths, Class10 have been working on becoming masters of the fraction. Fitting in – fractions of shape, understanding of numerator and denominator, finding fractions, calculating fractions of an amount, simplifying fractions, finding common denominators, ordering fractions, addition and subtraction of fractions, multiplication and division of fractions AND the application of all this to problem solving.

How have you found fractions this week? Can you remember what you make use of the largest common factor and smallest common multiple for?

As well as this…

Throughout KS2, maths classes have accepted a challenge from Mr Banham to become masters of their times tables up to 12 x 12. That involves not only knowing them, but being able to apply them in many ways. Well in our class we are taking it further and challenging ourselves to get all the way up to the 20 times tables.

This week some of us decided we needed to re-work on our 7x and others took on learning the 17x. I was especially impressed with those who then went home and did extra practice on them and those who were even seen challenging and practicing with each other to help instil them.

How did you get on? Which tables did you practice? Did you enjoy your times tables mental starter tasks? Has anyone been practicing over the weekend?

This week we will be moving on to mastering the 4x and 14x.
