Both in class and at home the pupils in Y4H have been researching and learning about the equipment miners would have used in the past. Making use of variety of different sources of information. These have included books, leaflets, the internet and family members.

Hi Mr Hastey I am really enjoying our topic we are Barnsley so far the best bit has been going to the mining museum but I also liked going on the local walk, it was a bit cold though!
I found out about the Davy lamp, that somebody stole the idea but he still got his name on it.
The snack tin was used for sandwiches and sometimes pit ponys took the sandwiches and wow I like mining equipment. I love this topic thank you MR Hastey.
I also found out about the 1930 snap-tin that they used to keep rats away.
I think the battery we saw was heavy Mr Hastey.
The miners had to have a snap tin so that the rats and mice underground would not get the miners food also they had to hang it up because the ponys knew how to get to the food inside.

Did anyone know why the snap tin was shaped like that?
The helmet was made in 1915 ,it was made 99 years ago.
The davy lamp was made in 1815 and when it was first made they used vegetable oil to power it.

I like when my table was drawing the black boot, and I also like sorting out my work. I have got a davy lamp at home but it is little, I wonder what we are going to do tomorrow.
Mr Hastey I know why the snap tin was shaped like it was. It was shaped like that because the miners could fit a small loaf of bread in it ! That’s why it was shaped like it is!!!!!!!!!!
The Davy lamp was made by sir Humphrey Davy in 1815(it was made of meta and painted gold.)
Mr Hastey I have learnt a lot about mining equipment and that the Davy lamp was used to find methane gas, the snap tin was shaped like a piece of bread.
