Today’s maths lesson has had a festive theme. Our task was to work out how many presents the ‘true love’ would receive altogether. Remember she got a partridge on the first day, and on the second day she got 2 turtle doves and a partridge making 3 presents on the second day, 6 on the third day and so on. Our question to you is how many presents had she received by the end of the 12th day?
I think it is 364

The song is rong in my car because it says 4 mocking birds wen it is 4 calling birds and 9 ladies wating and it is 9 ladies dancing. I liked the part when they say 7 swans are swimming best.

1 Partridge each day for 12 days = 12 presents
2 Turtle Doves each day for 11 days = 22 presents
3 French Hens each day for 10 days = 30 presents
4 Calling Birds each day for 9 days = 36 presents
5 Gold Rings each day for 9 days = 40 presents
6 Geese a-laying each day for 8 days = 42 presents
7 Swans a-swimming each day for 6 days = 42 presents
8 Maids a-milking each day for 5 days = 40 presents
9 Ladies dancies each day for 4 days = 36 presents
10 Lords a-leaping each day for 3 days = 30 presents
11 Pipers Piping each day for 2 days = 22 presents
and finally
12 Drummers Drumming for 1 day = 12
That gives a grand total of 364 presents……

Brilliant working out Erin but if she gets 1 partridge on the first day, 2 turtle doves and 1 partridge on the second day, then 3 French hens, 2 doves and 1 partridge on the third day I think you might need to think again.
