It has been another fantastic week at Hoyland Common Primary School, children in Y2 have started their SATs and it has been wonderful to see how hard they have worked and how confident and proud they are of their efforts. It has been the final week of teaching and boosters before the National KS2 SATs next week where the Y6 pupils will be tested in Reading Comprehension, Spelling, punctuation and grammar, and maths. I sure you will join me in wishing them the best of luck for next week.
Stars of the week this week have been selected for contributing great ideas, having a friendly and polite attitude, having improved concentration, a huge improvement in effort and attitude on the run up to SATs, and to Bradley for a huge improvement in all areas of his learning. Well done to you all and enjoy ‘Dining with the stars’, with Mr Hackney.
In other news the Y3/4 boy’s football team played Highview Primary in a well fought out match which resulted in a 2-2 draw. There was some brilliant football played and all in the right spirit. Well done boys! Our children in Foundation Stage had a wonderful morning with the ‘Rugger Eds’ team playing lots of rugby based games as part of their introduction to PE.
Attendance this week has been in line with the school target of 96.4%. An improvement on previous weeks but still room for improvement. At the start of the summer term can I remind all parents that holidays in term times are no longer authorised, and taking children on holiday during school may result in a fine. However the bigger impact is on children’s education, if a child takes 2 weeks out of school on holiday, evidence have shown that they never catch this learning up. Imagine that over their entire time in education from Reception to year 11. That would be a total of 24 weeks out of school, 2 whole terms of learning!
As ever if there is anything you wish to discuss about your child’s education please do not hesitate to contact me or one of the HCPS team.
