We’ve had a great start to our spring term topic, which is going to have us learning all about our local area.
The work children have been inspired to take on at home is fantastic and it was amazing to find out how much history all the families have in Barnsley and the mining industry.
Our local area learning walk turned out to be quite the adventure!
What features had undergone a drastic change from the historical maps and pictures we examined?
As well as the walk we travelled to the National Coal Mining Museum of England. This was a great experience and I was very proud to hear from the staff who worked with the pupils at the museum, how impressed they were with the responses children gave, the inquisitive questions asked, behaviour and enthusiasm.
Which of the activities on our trip did you enjoy and why? What did you learn about mining?

Jonathan
I enjoyed the coal mining trip the trip but I didn’t appear on any of the pictures!

What was it you enjoyed about the trip Jonathan?
I only had pictures of my group on the iPad. Will get some more up from the collection at school.

My favourite bit about the mining museum was when we went down the actual mine because I liked It when we had to lick our fingers and touch a wall of coal then wipe it all over our faces.
