Let us know if you’ve been taking part in sport!

We want to know if you’ve been taking part in any sports outside of school. It could be that you’ve been playing for a football team, taking part in a dance competition or raising money in a charity run. Whatever the sporting activity, let us know about it!

Just comment on this blog and tell us the details about the event and your part in it. You can even add a photo of you taking part. Alternatively let your teacher know about the event you’ve taken part in and they’ll pass it on to be added to the blog. You never know, you may even be asked to mention it in Celebration Assembly.

The PE team looks forward to hearing about the sporting activities the HCPS pupils have been up to.

To get things started I’d like to mention the exploits of Jonathan.D, Chloe.B, Morgan.D, Jack.S and Poppy.R (unfortunately the 6th member of the team James.LB was out ill) . This weekend they represented our school in the third fixture of the South Yorkshire Indoor Series, held at the EIS Sheffield, competing against other children representing athletics clubs from all over South Yorkshire and beyond. They had the opportunity to take part in three of the following events: 600m, 60m, 150m, Long Jump and Shot Putt.

They all represented the school impeccably and did themselves proud with the efforts they put in. Noteworthy results were:
-Chloe Bagshaw and her new personal bests of 9.49secs in the 60m and 3m 24cm in the long jump.
-Poppy Robinson and her new personal bests of 10.65secs in the 60m and 2min 28.92 secs in the 600m.
-Morgan Driscoll and her new personal best of 2m 16cm in the long jump.
-Jonathan Davies and his new personal best of 9.74secs in the 60m and a 4m 77cm in the shot putt when taking part in it for the very first time (coming 2nd place as well).
-Jack Sutton and his new personal best of 25.08secs in the 150m and a 3m 50cm in the shot putt also taking part for the very first time.

Another sporting accomplishment the school can be proud of has been provided by Jack and Ben Shepherd. This Sunday they both took part in the 6th Barnsley Junior Parkrun at Locke Park. That means HCPS has been represented by a pupil at all of he Locke Park events so far (with a few having been cancelled due to icy conditions).
An extra well done for Ben Shepherd achieving a personal best over the 2km course of 11 mins 1 sec, an improvement of nearly 2 mins. While a huge congratulations goes to Jack Shepherd who this Sunday made it his 4th parkrun event so far, he is now leading our pupils in number of events taken part in.

Eight of our pupils went along to EIS for the last two Sundays to take part in a basketball tournament played at half -time during a Sheffield Sharks game. They played alongside pupils from five other schools in our sports partnership and really enjoyed the experience of playing in front of nearly 800 spectators and making new friends. After the game they had their photos taken with the players and got the players autographs and got a free T-Shirt.
Ninety parents/relations came over the 2 weeks to watch the games which was good to see and something we encourage and appreciate.
The winning teams now go forward to the next round which will be in March.

Jessica’s festival dance troupe at Darton college festival, they got a 1st and were over the moon…., jess has also competed in a danceathon at her dance school in aid of save the children where she raised over £80 for the cause. She is currently working towards her next certificate in gymnastics, which shouldn’t be long as she is always upside down…!!!!

It sounds like you’ve been busy Jess. You’ll have to demonstrate even more of the skills you’ve learnt to the class when we next do apparatus. I know we were all impressed when you showed us part of your balance beam routine.
Great job Will, what a super trophy. Keep it all up!

Amelia (class 4) plays rugby on Sunday mornings with RuggerEds at Horizon Community College. Her little brother Austin has been attending for a number of weeks since the RuggerEds team came into HCPS to offer a taster session! She loves taking part in any type of sport and this one in particular not only focuses on fitness but also reinforces respect, good sportsmanship and fair play! She loves it and seems to be a natural!

I play football for Hoyland Town Juniors. We play matches on a Sunday and train on Thursday. I like being with my friends, it is fun. I play in defence which is good because you can stop people scoring and you get to do a lot of tackling.

Fantastic Jack! Sounds like you are multi-talented as I’ve been impressed with your athletics abilities at the school’s Thursday afternoon athletics club too. Hopefully the fitness you gain from athletics will help the football.

Olivia

I dance at the Karen Murillo school of dance. I have danced there since I was 3, and it is great! I dance 3 times a week and do gymnastics too! I love that I’m with my friends and it keeps me fit. I do shows and dance in festivals which are competitons. I have won medals and some trophies. I love the costumes and wearing makeup too! I am in a festival in a few weeks.

I love being part of the exciting learning journey at HCPS and spending my days with the amazing staff, pupils and families. When I'm not at work I'm looking after my crazy children, Billy who is 12 and Lottie who is 6.
